3 YEAR ANGELVERSARY

OCTOBER 7 2009

A LETTER TO HEAVEN

DEAR GRANDMA,

YOU ARE MISSED DEARLY EVERYDAY STILL. I WISH I COULD SEE YOU AND HUG YOU.

I LOVE YOU GRAM. GOD, HOW I MISS YOU!

JENNY

WE LOVE YOU, GRAM!

MY BEAUTIFUL GRANDMA
LAURA E. FRENCH
1/14/22-10/7/06

This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Laura French who was born in Michigan on January 14, 1922 and passed away from a 3rd battle with colon cancer on October 07, 2006 at the age of 84. We will remember her and love her forever. She fought the bravest battle til the end. God bless you gram. I miss you everyday still. She is survived by her two sisters (Ida and Fay), three daughters, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren as well as nieces /nephews and extended family.

10 things everyone should know about my Gram

1. She loved to take care of herself. Even a 10 minute stroll would bring a smile to her face.
2. No matter what kind of music was on, gram liked it. Whether it was “Green Onions” or “Elvira” gram would shake it! LOL
3. She had a huge collection of one-liner cartoons that were hilarious.
4. Gram was always there for us and you could tell her anything. She was the only family member who could really keep a secret.
5. Gram loved Ferrero-Rocher chocolates. Her last Christmas with us, she joked because she got 6 boxes of them! We unfortunately had brought her over box #7.
6. Her baking was unbeatable! She could make a masterpiece from any available ingredients.
7. She was a wonderful great-grandma and is dearly missed by my sons, whom she affectionately called her “shweethearts” and her “angels”. Now, she is their angel.
8. Gram seemed to know that she was going to leave us well before we knew. I wish that wasn’t the case. I just know I have never seen a braver person. She fought so hard to live and beat that colon cancer demon.
9. She was a strong, independent woman who had a successful career and raised her children without anyone’s help after divorcing grandpa.
10. Gram is missed so much by all of us. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about her. May the walks be beautiful wherever you are gram!

INGREDIENTS FOR THE PERFECT GRANDMA

LOVE, BEAUTY, WISDOM,DRIVE...
DIRECTIONS:
AGE BEAUTIFULLY AND GRACEFULLY FOR 84 years

THANKS TO TERI DREBIT, MOM OF ANGEL JAIME DREBIT FOR THE BEAUTIFUL CROSS GRAPHIC!

My beautiful grandma, Laura French (nee Webb) began her long life on January 14,1922 in Grosse Ile, Mi.

She is the second oldest daughter of Dayton and Elsie May Webb (nee Hunt). Grandma's siblings were:

Winifred Ella Miller (nee Webb) 1914-1998
Dayton C. Webb 1925-1988
Ida Elizabeth Kinder (nee Webb) -b.1930
Fay Martin (nee Webb) b.1936

Grandma always had a sense of responsibility and cared for her family from an early age. She worked hard to provide stability for all who were around her.

In 1946 she married my grandpa Al French (1924-2002) and stayed working gainfully for all 25 years of their marriage. My grandma was a wonderful mom to her daughters:Susan Kay French (adopted daughter/oldest aunt), Pamela Fay French (my mom), and Holly Beth French (my youngest aunt, rob's mom).

Gram was a superwoman of her time. She worked daily, made huge pans of lasagne, luscious desserts, and still had time to actively garden. She stayed busy for many years to come. In 1970 she was a finalist in the 21st Pillsbury Bakeoff. In 1985 she won a prize for in the Chicken Cooking Contest. No matter what gram did, she succeeded at. She was independent, smart, and her baking was phenomenal and will never be able to be matched by us. This is probably why i was a chunky youth, teenager, etc.  We could not help but to eat her fantastic creations!

thank you gloria! mom of angel austin darst for the cute graphic above!

Gram was a lucky lady who was fortunate enough to see all her grandkids grow up. 2 of us are married and have children (me and my cousin Robert). My gram adored us and she was my source of inspiration and reasoning my entire life. No matter what anyone did, grandma was ALWAYS there. I was very close to her from the time I was a baby, and her beauty, strength, and drive inspired me to become the success I am today. What a wonderful example to follow!

Grandma loved life and never kept her opinions silent (rest assured gram,we all will carry on that trait!).

THE BEGINNING OF THE END

My grandma had colon cancer 3 times. On July 18, the day before me and my son's birthday, we found out about the third time. She had surgery on July 21 and the news was even more devastating. The doctors removed 4 masses by removing the whole colon.. Then he paused. They had encountered a problem. They found that Gram had an inoperable tumor on the rear of her stomach. After all the surgery she STILL had the cancer. It floored all of us. They even told us it is genetic.

My mother had lived with my gram on and off for many years and there was no way we were sending her to a nursing home. My mom took grandma home and gave grandma 2000% of her heart and soul to take care of her. Before she passed grandma told my mom she would get paid back by God for all she had done for her. Gram would say "and here's to you ms.pam slomers...

...MORE THAN YOU WILL KNOW"...(QUOTED FROM MRS.ROBINSON)

When we heard the news that week that she was going to "go quick", it was unbearable, but true. Gram had congestive heart failure and by mid-week her organs were starting to shut down. Monday we saw her and she was talking and happy. On Friday 10/6, Gram could barely mumble a word and her breathing was difficult. Her lungs had completely filled with fluid.

I never cried so much. I am so glad that I told her how much I loved her.

I told her about 6 or 7 times that day alone. She responded softly, all times.

...and everyday

I dreaded the phone ringing that Saturday morning. My mom said she stayed all night with gram and talking to her. Mom went to get a cup of coffee and went back in her room. Gram stopped breathing.  We rushed over at 6 am, but she had passed away.

Gram waited until she was alone , just like hospice nurses said. My mom shouldn't feel bad for leaving the room. She was there with her all the way...

i miss you so much, gram...

Gram I hope your garden in heaven looks as peaceful as this photo....

Gram, I started to miss you before you even left us.

I know you were welcomed to Heaven with open arms...

Gram we all miss you so much, we will always love you and never forget you.

All family and friends are welcomed and encouraged to share your photos and precious memories. Grandma was special to all of us!

Visitors I kindly ask that you light a memorial candle in memory of my beautiful grandma...

Thank you! I would also be happy to add any of your angel's names to gram's friends. Let me know your loved ones' sites!

ONE OF A KIND
BY JULIE B. BRADSTREET

The funny beautiful lady
That means so much to me
May be gone from the land of the living
But with me she will always be
Because my memory holds her dearly
And my pen recalls her ways
And most of all I love her
A love that always stays
It stays inside my memory
And is often on my mind
Because a lady like my grandma
Is rare and hard to find.

POEMS FOR GRAM

Here is the poem I read to my grandma at her funeral on October 10,2006. I made it through because I knew she wanted me too.

In Memory of You
I find an old photograph
and see your smile.
As I feel your presence anew,
I am filled with warmth
and my heart remembers love.

I read an old card
sent many years ago
during a time of turmoil and confusion.
The soothing words written then
still caress my spirit
and bring me peace.

I remember who you used to be
the laughter we shared
and wonder what you have become.
Where are you now,
Where did you go,
When the body is left behind
and the spirit is released to fly?

Perhaps you are the morning bird
singing joyfully at sunrise,
or the butterfly that dances
so carelessly on the breeze
or the rainbow of colors
that brightens a stormy sky
or the fingers of afternoon mist
delicately reaching over the mountains
or the final few rays of the setting sun
lighting up the skies
edging the clouds with a magical glow.

I miss your being
but I feel your presence,
In whatever form you choose to take,
however you now choose to be.

Your spirit has become for me
a guardian angel on high
guiding, advising, and watching over me.

I remember you.
You are with me
and I am not afraid.

GRANDMA, THANK YOU FOR THE GIFT OF LOVE
by AugustinePerez

Grandma

Thank you for the gift of love,
now you're sharing it up above.
You had many things to say.
All in a caring way.
You always saw good in everyone,
No matter what they've done.
You were always the one we could all lean on.
Even though it must have felt like a ton.
You were always the strength of the family.
Now we must let you rest calmly.
As we say goodbye,
as tears roll down our eyes.
I know your place in heaven has a good view.
Because you're telling God,
I need to keep an eye on a few.
I know you will always be in our hearts and mind.
So Grandma,
I must go, but I'll never forget you're one of a kind

Her legacy
Gram would want us all to take care of ourselves!
Many find the topic of colorectal cancer something taboo to talk about. Since I am like gram with my opinion I will say it anyway. Seeing my gram suffer the last few months was difficult, but I (like my mom) did everything I could to help her and make her happy. I was there with her on July 18, 2006 the day before my birthday, when she found out about the 3rd time. It was unbelievably upsetting to me, but gram was ok with it. It was almost like she had known it would come back.

The sad thing is that it usually does. The recurrence rate is at an astounding 40%. That is scary. I am a high profile member of my community here in Michigan (and I am in the Who's Who In America 2007 edition) for being a cemetery saver/protector. I am not ashamed to say that at my next doctor's appointment I am going to ask about getting "the test". After her surgery on July 21 the doctor said that her form is genetic. That is even more scary and more of a reason to get checked out! I am also 31 year old mom of 2 young boys, if there is anything humanly possible I can do to stay here with them and my hubby I will!

p.s. If all of us could take 1 hour from our busy schedule every 3 years to save your life, please do it. I plan to!

Gramma's baking!
There was no one as innovative as gram was, in the kitchen. She was a phenomenal cook and had no problems ever thinking about perfecting a new recipe. She appeared in the 21st Pillsbury bake-off and book as a finalist for her "light and luscious" orange pie. In 1985 she was a state finalist at the chicken cooking contest for her "chicken salad drumsticks"...yummmmmyyy...

And as my brother said during her eulogy, it is partially why some of us  look a certain way today (lol) but we are all happy. I challenge myself, brother, family and cousins to try and duplicate her recipes! One of us could be the next Bake-Off Winner!
